Plants
Canna (or Canna lily)
A Canna is a tropical flowering plant with large palm-like leaves and vibrantly coloured flowers. It is found in the Americas, close to the equator. It's closest relations are ginger, bananas and marantas. Cannas have large flowers and horticulturists have turned it into a bright garden plant. It is also an agricultural plant and has a very large amount of starch.
Cannas are mentioned in To Kill A Mockingbird after Mrs Radley dies, to highlight her love for these flowers. Scout and Jem did not often see Mrs Radley while she was alive, except for when she watered her cannas.

Azaleas
Azaleas are flowering shrubs which bloom in Spring for several weeks. They survive best in shady environments and often have a short life because they need exactly the right conditions. They come in many colours, from white, to pink, mauve, purple, red, orange and yellow.
In To Kill A Mockingbird, Miss Maudie mentions her azaleas as she tries to wrap them in burlap bags to protect them from the snow. Miss Maudie loves her plants and takes great care of them. She does not believe the snow is beautiful because she is worrried it will freeze and kill her beloved azaleas. During the novel, Miss Maudies plants are mentioned often to highlight Miss Maudie's lonely but loving personality.
